1. To our athletes, volunteers, coaches, families and friends of Special Olympics Minnesota: After careful discussion and review of new developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have made the difficult decision to cancel all Special Olympics Minnesota area and regional competitions for the spring/summer sports season (swimming, basketball, track & field and gymnastics). While cancelling events is disappointing for athletes who have trained and practiced to compete, we know that our love of sport does not compare to the importance of protecting the health of our athletes and the entire Special Olympics Minnesota community. Along with the decision to cancel area and regional competitions, all practices and other Special Olympics Minnesota gatherings are suspended until April 15, 2020 at which time we will reevaluate and send an update via email. It is still our hope to host Summer Games in June and therefore we want to allow practices to resume as soon as it is safe. If we are able to safely host Summer Games, participation in an area or regional competition will not be required in order to compete at the state level. Summer Games registration requirements are still to be determined and we will update you as soon as we know more. If we are able to host Summer Games this year, we know it will be a joyful and triumphant return for our community. During this time, all updates will be posted on somn.org/covid19. Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is uncharted territory and we appreciate your support as we work to make the best decisions for our athletes and everyone in our community. 1. Please refer to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention website and the Minnesota Department of Health website for more information about COVID-19.

Hi All, Our athletes really worked hard today in our games between the St. Paul Magic and the Stanford hypes. I am proud to say that they stuck with to work together to try hard for a win. Tomorrow is a new day and from what it look like we could be playing two games tomorrow (on sunday). Please do what you can to prepare you member for both teams. Our first game is at 9:55 am. Please arrive 30 minutes before game so they have time to warm up . I would like to see everyone on the court at 9:25 am. Please be prepared that we will play both team tomorrow. The St. Paul Magic seems to be a easier team for us to play against but we can't ever be overly confident. If they change something tomorrow we could easily lose the game. Then there is Stanford Hypes . We are aware of concerns with the goalie and we are working with SOMN to work that out. Please take note that our athletes are well matched in ability to this team and that is why the team is feeling stressed as they have to work much harder for a win. This is a much harder team to win against and I understand how stressful this is for everyone including parents. The coaches need parents not to come over to the bench to help their anthele and please let the coaches do what they need to do. Allow the coaches to take over coaching. Please cheer on you member as much as you can . The bench can get very crowded with too many present. We find when famlies coach from the sidelines they are listening to the parent and not what the coaches. Please refrain as much as you can. I know this is hard. Please allow the athletes to focus on the coaches and the game. Please let me know if you have more questions. I also have several lunch tickets for tomorrow so please ask me for one for your athlete. Bonnie Pautsch-Dyakin GO Tigers Head of Delegation
